HiSET (High School Equivalency Test)

The High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) is composed of five sub-tests which may be taken on one day or scheduled for different days.  The tests have multiple choice questions and a writing essay. The  five sub-tests are Language Arts-Reading, Language Arts-Writing, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. All tests are paper-based or computer-based, and is available in both Spanish and English.  The test taker can choose the format and language they prefer.

  • To prepare for the test, contact your local adult school or explore the practice resources on the HiSET website.

  • Scores for paper-based test are available in 7-10 days and can be found by checking your on-line HiSET account.

  • Unofficial scores  for the multiple choice sections of computer-based testing are available when you finish the exam.  Scores are certified 5 days after the exam.

Cost: $140 for the entire test or $24 per sub-test and a one-time state fee of $20. Payment is online.
