Message from County Superintendent of Schools

June 9, 2023

Dear community,

It is graduation season and a time to acknowledge the Class of 2023. It is time to celebrate their accomplishments and the start of a new chapter in their lives. Wherever they may be headed next - whether it is college, career training, the workforce, or something else - it is a time to recognize and appreciate their achievements and perseverance.

As we watch students walk across the stage to receive their diplomas, we should remember that this class had its first year of high school interrupted by the COVID pandemic and many did not return to school until their junior year. This did not deter these students.

Some members of the Class of 2023 are still trying to find their way. The county office of education has educational programs to help you reach your goals, including two ways to receive a California High School Equivalency Certificate. I encourage you to continue working towards your goals and use the resources available to you.

To the Class of 2023, I say congratulations and thank you for all that you are about to accomplish! Go forward and innovate, advocate, create, celebrate, and find joy. You have the power to make a difference in this world.

In celebration,

Lynn Mackey
