PLEASANT HILL, Calif. — Agenda items on the Contra Costa County Board of Education agenda for the meeting on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, include recognizing Contra Costa Television as an Education Champion, the awarding of high school diplomas for court and community school students, review of Student Accountability Report Cards (SARC), and examination of Single Plans for Student Achievement (SPSA). An update will also be given on Labor Agreement Proposals regarding the agency’s collective bargaining sessions with its union partners.
Presentations: A presentation on Arts and Music in Schools Funding (Prop 28) and community partnerships will showcase Contra Costa County Office of Education’s efforts to bring STEAM into more elementary school classrooms throughout the county. CCCOE’s Wellness in Schools program manager will also give an overview of bullying prevention resources available to schools and educators.

BOARD MEETING AGENDA RECOGNITIONS & HIGHLIGHTS:
Education Champion Recognition: Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools Lynn Mackey will recognize Contra Costa Television (CCTV) as an Education Champion. CCTV is a valued partner who assists the agency with filming educational events such as Poetry Out Loud, the Teachers of the Year Celebration, and various other CCCOE events and activities. CCTV also partners with CCCOE on content for edTV, one of the public broadcast channels CCTV runs and supports. Its collaboration and support helps to promote and showcase the excellent work taking place in Contra Costa County's public schools.
High School Diplomas: The Board will consider granting diplomas to students at Contra Costa Adult School and Contra Costa County Office of Education’s Court and Community Schools.
Review of CCCOE’s School Accountability Report Cards (SARC): All public schools in California are required annually to prepare SARCs and disseminate them to the public. SARCs are intended to provide the public with important information about each public school and to communicate a school's progress in achieving its goals.
Review of Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA): The California Education Code (EC 64001 a) requires each school receiving funds through the Consolidated Application to develop a SPSA. The purpose of the SPSA is to improve the academic performance of all pupils. These plans must also be approved by the local governing board.
Williams Quarterly Report: The Williams Uniform Complaint Quarterly Report is submitted to the CCCOE Business Services Department four times per year to document any complaints filed against the County Office as a Local Education Agency (LEA), or any school within the LEA. Complaints can be filed for the following categories: Textbooks and instructional materials; Teacher misassignment or vacancy; Facility conditions.
Arts and Music in Schools: The Board will receive an update on Arts and Music in Schools Funding (Prop 28) to showcase how more STEAM activities and programs are reaching schools in Contra Costa County.
Bullying Prevention Resources Overview: The Wellness in Schools Program (WISP) will present bullying prevention resources available on CCCOE’s website and how schools and educators can utilize them.
Labor Agreement Proposals: The Board will receive an update on bargaining sessions related to labor agreements with its local unions, including the latest proposals from each of the parties involved.
Charter Schools: An update will be given on CCCBOE-authorized charter schools, the annual oversite visits in process, Contra Costa School of Performing Arts, charter schools in Differentiated Assistance, and the 2024 Charter Data Book.
Policy Standing Committee: The Board will review proposed changes to Board Policies as recommended by the Policy Standing Committee.
Board Standing Committee Reports: The Board president may appoint standing committees for the policy committee, charter committee, budget committee, and legislative committee.
