Three Contra Costa County students named 'Champions' at the State NHD competition!!! They will go on to compete at the National competition in Maryland on June 9 - 13.
Winner in the Group Website category: Adviti Aleti & Stuthi Kandula, Dougherty Valley High School, San Ramon Valley USD - "The Pentagon Papers: A Turning Point In Public Perception & Press"
Winner in the Individual Website category: Ariel Liu, Dougherty Valley High School, San Ramon Valley USD - "Citizenship by Birth - United States v. Wong Kim Ark".
In addition, a special award, 'The Stephenson Family Award for Sports History', was presented by the "Friends of NHD-CA" to Xiyan Liu from The Athenian School for "The History of Golf", in the Individual Documentary category.
NHD-CA State Finals
The 2024 California state contest will take place at Sacramento State on April 19-21, 2024. The winners from each county competition are eligible to advance to the state contest.
Over 1,600 students compete at the state contest each year. National History Day in California is a co-curricular program for students in grades 4 - 12 in all educational settings. Students engage in historical inquiry and analysis on a topic of their choice.
California Champions advance to the
National History Day competition that is held each June at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. Over 3,000 students complete each year in this final History Day round.
