PLEASANT HILL, CA – Community members interested in running for a seat on the Contra Costa County Board of Education (CCCBOE) in the upcoming November election are invited to an information session on Wednesday, July 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ronald L. Stewart Building, located at 77 Santa Barbara Road in Pleasant Hill.

Hosted by the Contra Costa County Office of Education, this event will provide important information for potential candidates about the roles and responsibilities of the Contra Costa County Board of Education (CCCBOE) and a county board member.

“I encourage anyone who wants to be a member of the Contra Costa County Board of Education to come out and learn about our duties and responsibilities,” County Board of Education President Mike Maxwell said. “This body plays an important role in the educational landscape of this county and can serve as an effective tool to advocate for the needs of everyone in this community.”

There are two CCCBOE Trustee Areas up for election in November: Areas 1, which covers El Cerrito, El Sobrante, San Pablo, Pinole, and parts of Kensington and Richmond; and Area 3, which covers Bay Point, Clyde, Crockett, Hercules, Martinez, Pacheco, Pleasant Hill, Pittsburg, Port Costa, Rodeo, and parts of El Sobrante.

The candidate nomination period runs July 15-August 9, 2024. According to the Contra Costa County Elections Division, if an incumbent does not file by the nomination deadline (August 9, 2024), the seat is extended five calendar days (until August 14, 2024) to non-incumbents only. More information about filing to run for office is available at https://www.contracostavote.gov/elections.

About Contra Costa County Office of Education

One of 58 counties in California, Contra Costa County (CCCOE) has the 11th largest public-school student population in the state (approximately 169,225 students). Officially established in 1932, CCCOE has a long history of providing direct services to some of our county's most vulnerable students, including young people who are incarcerated, homeless, or in foster care, as well as students who have severe physical or emotional challenges.

CCCOE also provides support services to schools and school districts in Contra Costa County; services that can be handled most effectively and economically on a regional basis rather than by each of the county's 286 schools or 18 school districts. These services range from budget approval and fiscal support to technology infrastructure, communication support, and high-level professional development opportunities for educators. CCCOE maintains a website at www.cocoschools.org.
