Suicide Prevention

At the CCCOE, we recognize that suicide is a leading cause of death among youth, prevention is a collective effort that requires stakeholder engagement, and school personnel who regularly interact with students are often in a position to recognize the warning signs of suicide and to offer appropriate referrals and/or assistance. In addition to our board policy addressing suicide prevention, the CCCOE has a comprehensive Suicide Prevention and Intervention Policy and Protocol. These prevention and intervention guidelines are designed for schools to have procedures in place to prevent suicide, assist students who are at risk of suicide, and intervene and respond appropriately in a suicide-related crisis. Our CCCOE programs adhere to this policy and protocol. It also serves as a resource for other districts and agencies in their suicide prevention and intervention efforts. The CCCOE is committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment that addresses the social-emotional and mental health needs of youth in our programs and county at large.
